Come Fly with Me – Jumping Pics Around the World

WordPress Daily Prompt + My Obsession With “Jumping Pics”

If you know me well, then I’ve probably made you do a jumping pic with me. This redundant and unoriginal pose will always be one of my favorites:

Do “jumping pics” ever get old? Absolutely not. But if you want to actually be in them, that means you have to ask someone else to take them. I have no problem asking complete strangers to take pictures for me, but 80% of people (in my experience) are terrible at taking pictures, ESPECIALLY jumping pictures.

Tips on Taking Super Sweet Jumping Pics:

  1. Find a suitable person to play photographer. Asians with large cameras have about a 50% success rate, although a language barrier and/or inability to actually see the shutter-release button is common. (I just Googled “take picture button” to figure out the technical name.) Younger people are more patient and are more likely to be able to see the aforementioned button without having to dig into their bag for their glasses.
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask people. Most people don’t mind. But watch out for dodgy people who would potentially run away with your camera (this has always been a fear of mine).
  3. Don’t ask the same person to take your picture more than twice. It’s awkward. They probably have things to do.
  4. Wait for them to be at least 20 yards away before asking someone else to retake the picture. Again, it’s awkward otherwise.
  5. Put your camera on the “quick/multiple shots” mode. On my Sony Cybershot, there’s a setting where you can hold down the shutter-release button and it’ll take continuous pictures. This will make jumping pics 20 thousand times easier. Yes, twenty thousand.
  6. Decide before jumping if you’re going to jump on three or after three. it makes a huge difference.
  7. If you can’t be bothered to ask anybody else, use a ten second time – it adds an element of excitement/anxiety/frustration which is always fun.
  8. Create boundaries to prevent accidents from happening (i.e. getting punched in the face. This happens a lot more often than you’d think.)

Happy Jumping 🙂

  8. Wow, all those pics are awesome, especially NZ. I’d love to go someday… how long were you there and what was your favorite part(s)?

    1. I absolutely recommend visiting New Zealand! For as long as you possibly can because it is the most BEAUTIFUL country in the world! I went there twice – once to the north island and once to the south island. I was unfortunately only there a week both times but I want to go back soon! My absolute favorite parts were the Tongariro Alpine Crossing trek (north island), which is where some of Lord of the Rings was filmed. It was a 19km hike and was the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. Kayaking at Milford Sound in the south island was a close second, however!
